Highland Park was the first park in the Rochester Park System, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, as a work of art of moral purpose, expressive of unique local character and the ideals of our civic leaders. Built as designed in 1890, the park remains an iconic, evergreen feature of our community, retaining the integrity of its original design except for the loss of its signature element, the Children’s Pavilion.
The Highland Park Conservancy has advocated for the reconstruction of the Children’s Pavilion, at the same location, scale and style, while meeting current standards for safety and accessibility, since 1994. This presentation will provide an update on the progress of the Children’s Pavilion Reconstruction Project.
JoAnn Beck is a Landscape Architect, who retired after 35 years of professional experience, including academic, private and public practice. She currently serves as President of the Board of Directors of Highland Park Conservancy and of the Rochester Olmsted Parks Alliance. In 2024 her work was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the New York Upstate Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects and The President’s Award from the national Olmsted Network.
The meeting will begin at 7:30pm on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Again, it will be a Zoom presentation. Please join us from wherever you may be this winter!!
