The September 3rd meeting of the Honeoye Falls – Town of Mendon Historical Society will feature Geoffrey Zeiner, whose topic will be “Crossing the Main Street Bridge”

Crossing the Main Street Bridge takes us on a trip to the unique bridge carrying Rochester’s Main Street over the Genesee River; from its earliest history in the early 19th century to today. The presentation takes special interest in the buildings which used to stand on either side of the historic bridge, examining why they were built there, what businesses were undertaken in them, and why they were ultimately removed.

Geoffrey Zeiner is the author of Gonechester.com, a blog about lost buildings, places, and people from the history of Rochester, NY. Zeiner started Gonechester in 2023, and it has since won a Landmark Society award; Zeiner has presented a number of topics at myriad libraries and historical societies, such as the Main Street Bridge, old Four Corners, and the buried waterways of Rochester’s past.

The meeting will begin at 7:30pm on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at the Mendon Community Center, 167 North Main Street in Honeoye Falls. This facility is handicapped accessible. The meeting is open to the public.
