The November 5th meeting of the Honeoye Falls – Town of Mendon Historical Society will feature Drew Saur, whose topic will be “21 Months: The Story of Our Museum’s Reinvention”

In late 2023, The Honeoye Falls-Town of Mendon Historical Society Board of Trustees reviewed our various policies, and decided it was time to do a top-to-bottom inventory of our collections, which hadn’t been done in many years. That’s pretty daunting. You may be surprised to learn that we have approximately 15,000 items in our collections. Some of these items were simply old things, with no particular relevance to our community. Gary Albright, one of our Trustees, suggested early on that we refocus our Society’s lens while looking at our collections. We asked ourselves:

Is this item something that a visitor to our museum would expect to find here?

This presentation covers the story of 21 months of volunteer work to finish the first complete exhibit overhaul in the Museum’s 56-year history, and the most substantial reimagining of its exhibits in three decades.

Currently, Drew is the Chief Information Officer for The Palmer Family of Companies; Adjunct Faculty in the Software Engineering Department at RIT; and founder of The Progressive CIO, a blog that covers topics related to technology leadership.

Drew has spent the majority of his career as a senior technology leader, building high-functioning technology teams with a humanistic approach for Software Engineering and IT initiatives. His leadership focus is on creating and strengthening the relationships between engineers and their customers by concentrating on aspects of empathy and trust.

Drew serves as president for the Honeoye Falls-Town of Mendon Historical Society, and is past president of the Mendon Foundation, a not-for-profit land trust that preserves open spaces in the Town of Mendon, and which was responsible for the development and maintenance of the Lehigh Valley Trail throughout Monroe County under contract with the Monroe County Parks Department.

The meeting will begin at 7:30pm on Thursday, November 5, 2026 at the Mendon Community Center, 167 North Main Street in Honeoye Falls. This facility is handicapped accessible. The meeting is open to the public.
